Lace is to textiles what gold is to metals and diamonds to rocks
The story : My name is Tamara Bavdek. I graduated from University of Montreal in Industrial Design a couple of years ago. I am addicted to design in all of it’s forms and I have a natural urge to create things. I am inspired by everything.
After many, many years of long blond hair, I needed a change. After finally getting a short haircut, I started seeking large earrings to compliment and feminize my look. Having always been obsessed with Pop Art and the ‘60s era, I turned to trendsetter of her time Edith Minturn “Edie” Sedgwick for inspiration. This actress/model/heiress was, in fact, Andy Warhol’s (most renowned artist of the Pop Art movement) muse and greatly inspired his work as well.
I then started creating statement jewelry and accessories made of lace (sometimes stiffened to keep the structure and treated for durability) which is extra light weight and simply elegant. I like to use vintage lace and simple materials which give my work a Modernist or Art Nouveau/Art Deco look.
